Newly Confirmed Speakers...

State Senator Steve Newman is now confirmed to speak at the Tax Day Tea Party on April 15th at 6pm at the base of 9th street near DPO Grill and Amazement Square.

This adds to confirmed speakers Congressman Virgil Goode, Lynchburg City Councilmen Jeff Helgeson and Scott Garrett, and local businesspeople negatively affected by the growing tax-burden in the US.

  1. Brendan;

    This is an "ANTI" political rally and I do not think that elected officials or those that want to get back into Washington should speak. One of the reasons that Congressman Goode is no longer in office is that he was part of the problem and we tossed him out. The longer he was in Washington, the more unreachable he became. He failed the people, broke promises and didn't lead. Having him speak will weaken the message and move this from a protest rally to a political campaign rally. It may also keep people from attending.

  2. Tim, Many share the same concerns and rightfully so. However, the reality is that much of the change needs to come from politicians in addition to the people electing them, and having some elected officials publicly take a stand against the sort of behavior that got us to this point has great advantages as well.
